Current Info: After leaving MPHS in 1988, I became the assistant band director at Atlanta HS. In 1990, I became the head band director. During the 6 years I was a band director in Atlanta, we made 6 consecutive first divisions in marching, went to the UIL State Marching Contest twice, finished in the top 3 at the State Fair of Texas Parade of Champions Marching Contest 4 consecutive years, performed at the pre-game of the 1992 Independence Bowl, and earned three Sweepstakes awards. In 1994, I became the Technology Director for Atlanta ISD and began work on a Masters degree in Instructional Technology. I completed the Masters degree in 1996 and in 1997, I came back to MP as a technology consultant for Region VIII Education Service Center. In 1999, I became Distance Learning Coordinator at ESC8 and in 2001, I became Director of Data Processing. I left the service center in January 2004 to become Director of Computer Services for Northeast Texas Community College. My wife, Mary Lou, is on the faculty at NTCC. She teaches Computer Science and Math.

Even though I have been out of band directing for 14 years, I still design marching shows and write music arrangements for bands across the state. I am also writing original works for band. On the Gladewater HS band’s Spring Concert, they premiered a concert piece I wrote in memory of the director’s mother who passed away two years ago. The work is based on the Negro spiritual “Deep River”. The Rockport-Fulton HS band played a march I wrote in honor of the director’s father. The march is titled Hurricane Watch.

Mary Lou and I have had a chance to travel quite a bit in the last 6-7 years. In addition to two 5-day western Caribbean cruises and a week in Cancun, we spent 4 days Washington, D.C, an 8-day trip in 2005 that included London and Paris, and a 10-day trip this past fall to Italy with stops in Venice, Florence, Assisi, Pompeii, Capri, and Rome. We are making plans for another trip to Europe in 2009 that includes Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Munich, and Berlin.

Our daughter Michele is married and lives in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she and her husband are both teachers. They both finished Masters degrees in Education this past December. They are the proud parents, and Mary Lou and I are the VERY PROUD GRANDPARENTS, of two boys, Will and Harper. Harper was born April 25. Will will turn 3 on July 8.
